One year ago, I took a leap of faith.
I pressed “publish” on my very first self-published book—equal parts terrified and exhilarated—unsure of what would come next. Today, I’m celebrating one full year as a self-published author, and what a year it has been.
When I started this journey, I didn’t just want to write a book. I wanted to create something that mattered. Something that would sit in someone’s hands during a quiet, heavy moment. Something that would remind them they weren’t alone. Over the past year, I’ve been humbled beyond words by the messages, reviews, and conversations that followed. My book has touched lives. It has helped friends and family walk through the difficult terrain of grief. It has opened space for healing conversations. And for that, I am endlessly grateful.
Self-publishing taught me more than I ever expected. I learned that being an author isn’t just about writing. It’s about courage. It’s about vulnerability. It’s about marketing, editing, designing, promoting, and believing in your work even when the doubts creep in. There were moments when I questioned myself. Moments when sales were slow. Moments when I wondered if anyone was reading at all.
And then a message would come.
Someone would share how a chapter resonated deeply. Someone would say the words helped them process a loss they hadn’t been able to put into language. Someone would buy copies for their own family and share it with their friends. Those moments reminded me why I started.
Grief is not a straight path. It’s messy. It’s layered. It changes shape over time. If my book has been even a small lantern in someone’s dark season, then every late night and every ounce of vulnerability was worth it.
This first year has also awakened something bigger in me: belief.
Belief that I have more stories to tell.
Belief that my voice matters.
Belief that this is just the beginning.
I am beyond excited for what’s next. The ideas are flowing. The vision is clearer. The next book is already stirring in my heart, and I’m ready to pour even more growth, depth, and courage into it. I’m not just hoping for another book—I’m preparing for my next bestseller.
But no matter what comes next, this first year will always hold a special place in my journey. It represents bravery. It represents purpose. It represents stepping out on faith and discovering that the words I carried were meant to be shared.
To everyone who has supported me—who read, shared, reviewed, encouraged, and believed—thank you. You are part of this milestone. You are part of this celebration.
Here’s to one year of impact.
Here’s to healing.
Here’s to family.
And here’s to the next bestseller in the making.
